Welding

In the spot welding process, the centering elements of both nuts and bolts and the positioning of parts need to withstand high temperatures, prevent adhesion of welding projections and be electrically isolated.

Ceramic materials offer all these properties without the need for treatment or insulation outside the centering pin. YPSZ zirconia is particularly suitable due to its high bending strength, chemical stability and good surface finish.

In welding sheet metal, such as large pieces of boiler and shipbuilding, ceramic backings allow excellent welding finish without any further trimming.

Apceram can produce ceramic backings normally using 92% alumina.
