High performance ceramics
Although the term "ceramic" is normally associated with materials that are considered fragile, this is no longer the case. Technical ceramics have advanced over the past few decades and today are present in all fields of science and technology.
The remarkable features of engineering ceramics are:
- High hardness.
- High resistance to chemical attack.
- Resistance to high and low temperatures.
- Good electrical insulation.
- Low density.
This combination of material properties allow technical ceramics to replace other commonly used materials such metals or plastics.
